“Sibo Looks Right” was written to empower children with knowledge about all aspects of road safety in a fun and entertaining manner. It is well known that children are conduits of information to their parents and communities. Stories are read over and over and messages are instilled and absorbed without the children even realising that they are learning. So mind-set is subtly changed.
“Sibo and her parents are leaving the shopping mall one night, when they nearly have an accident – and it wasn’t even their fault! This gets Sibo thinking about road safety, so she asks her teacher to organise a talk at the school the highlight the do’s and don’ts. Then, one day after school, Sibo gets a surprise visit and receives and amazing gift –something she’s always wanted.”
Author, Ginny Stone and publisher, Peter Sanderson from Lets Look Publishing, both passionately believe that something needs to be done about the shocking road safety statistics in South Africa. This is their way of contributing.
Funding for this book was generated via the South Africa crowdfunding platform, Thundafund. Due to a very generous donation from Nash Nissan (Alberton) as well as smaller amounts from the Department of Arts and Culture, family, friends and the general public, we have been able to publish an e-book that is freely available on Sibo’s website and a limited number of real books is in the process of being printed and will be distributed freely in the Gauteng area.

The Sibo books are all about empowering young children with knowledge that they too can make a difference. Sibo is a little girl who wants to help save the world from going to pot. She needs all of the children in South Africa (and the world) to help her.
The Sibo Series was established in 2007. To date, 12 titles have been published in the series and these are being read in libraries and schools around South Africa.
The trademark of Sibo stories is that they take relatively complicated or intense information and break it down into bite sized pieces that are easy to understand. As is often the case with story books, they are treasured, read over and over, so if perhaps you did not understand all of it the first time, eventually you would. Whilst children are widely recognised as conduits of information to the community, often older siblings or parents also read to their children and so the adult target market is reached too.
The books are written in wacky rhyme with lovely illustrations on each page – the serious messages are gently woven into the story line and children do not even realise that they are learning whilst they read.
Topics range from global warming, planting your own veggies, the sea and sustainable resources, recycling, HIV AIDS, nanotechnology, biodiversity, chemistry, looking after pets, saving water, space (the earth is the only place to live so we better look after it) and fighting malaria.
Sibo Looks Right is the 13th title in the Sibo Series.
