Taxi rear-ends bus injuring 16, Tzaneen

16 people were injured this afternoon, one critically, after a taxi rear-ended a bus on the R36 in Tzaneen, Limpopo.

ER24 paramedics were called to the scene by motorists who had witnessed the collision.

Once on scene, paramedics found a taxi partially wedged beneath the rear of the bus. The entire front of the taxi was completely smashed.

On assessment, paramedics found that 16 people had been injured in the collision, one critically that lay trapped inside the taxi.

Rescue services had to separate the taxi from the bus before they could use the jaws-of-life equipment to free the trapped patient.

Once freed, paramedics treated the patients and provided the critically injured man with advanced life support interventions.

Once the patients were treated, they were transported to various hospitals in Tzaneen for further treatment.

Fortunately the bus had been empty at the time of the collision, except for the driver, who escaped without injury.

Local authorities were on scene for further investigations.
