Bus overturns killing nine, injuring scores more, Free State

Nine people have been killed and scores more injured after a bus overturned on the N1 Highway between Ventersburg and Winburg in the Free State.

ER24 paramedics, along with other services, responded to the scene after receiving reports that a bus full of people had rolled multiple times.

On arrival, paramedics found a bus lying on its roof a short distance away from the main road. Scores of bodies littered the scene.

Paramedics from various services began to triage the patients, stting up a staging area for the treatment.

Intial reports show that nine people have sustained fatal injuries in the collision and leaving at least 40 more people with injuries ranging from minor to critical.

Paramedics are on the scene treating the patients and transporting them to various hospitals for urgent treatment.

It is also believed that some occupants are still trapped under the bus.

Local authorities are on scene for further investigations.
