Man dragged behind truck with barbed wire in hit-and-run

A man in his early forties sustained serious injuries when he was dragged behind a truck with barbed wire. The incident occurred earlier today on Eden Park Drive in Pietermaritzburg. A truck transporting barbed wire allegedly drove past the man and he got caught on a piece of barbed wire that was hanging off the side of the truck. It is believed that the man was dragged behind the truck for about 50 metres before he freed himself from the barbed wire.

When ER24 paramedics arrived on scene they found the man on his back on the side of the road. He has sustained massive lacerations to his arms and legs. ER24 treated his injuries and transported the man to Edendale Hospital for further treatment. The truck was not on scene and it is believed to have been a hit and run.

The cause of the incident is unknown.
