One killed as taxi allegedly skips traffic light in crash in Woodmead, Johannesburg

One person was killed and three people were injured after a taxi was T-boned and overturned this morning on the corner of Woodmead Drive and Van Reenans Street, in Woodmead.

EMER-G-MED paramedics arrived on the scene just after 8am, finding one passenger lying beside the taxi – after being ejected from the vehicle. Unfortunately the patient showed no signs of life, and was declared dead on the scene.

Another three passengers from the taxi sustained minor to moderate injuries and were treated on-scene before being transported to various nearby facilities for further treatment.

Eyewitnesses reported that the taxi skipped a red traffic light while travelling at speed in the emergency lane – heading towards the M1 on Woodmead Drive.

A bakkie that was crossing the intersection then T-boned the taxi, causing it to overturn – fortunately none of the bakkie’s occupants were injured in the collision.

JMPD’s specialist accident investigation unit were called to the scene to investigate further.
