A 45-year-old woman and her 18-year-old son are in a critical condition this afternoon after two light motor vehicles collided at the N12 and Govan Mbeki Road intersection in Potchefstroom.
ER24 paramedics arrived on the scene and found both vehicle in the intersection up against the traffic light.
On inspection, paramedics found a young man and his mother lying trapped inside their vehicle, both in a critical condition.
Rescue officers had to used specialised rescue tools to extricate both patients from the vehicle.
Once freed, paramedics treated both patients and provided them with advanced life support interventions.
Once treated the mother was airlifted by the ER24 Helicopter to a private hospital while the son was transported by ambulance.
The driver of the second vehicle fortunately did not sustain any injury.
Local authorities were on scene for further investigations.
