Two killed, four injured in head-on collision, Wellington

A mother and her 3-year-old boy were killed and four others injured early this morning after two light motor vehicles collided on the R44 near Wellingon in the Western Cape.

ER24 paramedics were called to the scene shortly after 02h00 this morning after receiving reports of the collision.

On arrival, paramedics found two light motor vehicles in the middle of the road. Both vehicles had sustained a large amount of damege in the head-on collision.

On inspection, paramedics found a number of bodies lying around on the scene.

Another services had already arrived on scene and had begun CPR on a woman who showed no signs of life. CPR efforts continued for some time, unfortunately, no vital signs returned and the woman was declared dead on scene.

The deceased’s two children, boys believed to be 3-years-old, lay outside the vehicle. The one child lay in a critical condition while the other had escaped with only minor injuries.

Paramedics began their treatment and provided the critically injured child with advanced life support interventions. Once treated, both patients were transported to a nearby hospital. Unfortunately, the critically injured child succumbed to his multiple injures at hospital.

The father and two other patients, from the second vehicle, were found to have sustained moderate injuries in the collision. They were treated for their injuries and were thereafter transported to Mediclinic Paarl for further treatment.

It is believed that the one light motor vehicle swerved in front of the other, causing the collision.
