16 people were injured this morning following a collision between two taxis and a light motor vehicle on the N1 Highway outside Musina in Limpopo.
ER24 paramedics, along with other services, arrived on scene and found that two taxis had collided partially head-on. One of the taxis was found on the side of the road while the second was in the middle of the road. A light motor vehicle had stopped a short distance away in the emergency lane.
A number of occupants from the taxis were found walking around on the scene.
On closer inspection, paramedics found that two men were critically injured in the collision, one trapped inside one of the taxis while the other patient lay on the ground a few metres away.
Rescue services had to use the jaws-of-life equipment to free the patient from the vehicle. Once freed, paramedics provided both patients with advanced life support interventions. The remaining 14 patients were assessed and found to have sustained injuries ranging from minor to moderate.
Paramedics treated the patients and thereafter transported them to Musina Hospital for further treatment.
Apparently the one taxi tried to overtake the light motor vehicle, lost control and collide with the other taxi.
Local authorities were on scene to investigate further.
