A collision involving a taxi, a bakkie and a light motor vehicle occurred on the corners of Bloem Street and Church Street in Ficksburg this morning. It is believed that the bakkie and light motor vehicle collided which led to the light motor vehicle overturning. The taxi then allegedly collided with the overturned vehicle.
The collision left a total of eight people injured with injuries ranging from minor to moderate. The driver of the light motor vehicle was entrapped and ER24 paramedics broke out the windshield of the vehicle to extricate the patient safely. Thereafter the patient was treated and transported by ER24 to Mediclinic Hoogland for further treatment. ER24 also treated and transported five other patients to Ficksburg Provincial Hospital. The remaining patients were treated and transported by other services.
The fire department was also dispatched to ensure safety on scene, as the light motor vehicle was leaking large amounts of petrol onto the road. The cause of the incident remains unknown, local authorities were on scene for further investigation.
