A man was killed and another sustained serious injury when a taxi and a light motor vehicle collided with each other on the R114 between the R512 and Cedar Road in Nooitgedacht, north of Johannesburg.
Shortly before 6am paramedics from ER24 arrived on the scene where they found City of Johannesburg emergency workers already busy attending to the driver of the taxi. The taxi overturned during the collision and landed on its wheels in an open veld next to the road. It is believed that the taxi had only the driver in it at the time of the collision. He was later transported to Helen Joseph Hospital for further care.
A man, believed to be in his late twenties, was found lying next to a Toyota Avanza. It is believed that he was a pedestrian. He sustained multiple fatal injuries and there was nothing that paramedics could do for him. He was declared dead on the scene.
The exact cause of the collision is not yet known. Johannesburg Metro Police attended the scene and will conduct an investigation.
