Two collisions leave five injured, Pietermaritzburg

Five people were left injured this morning after two separate collisions on the N3 Umlaas Highway in Pietermaritzburg.

ER24 paramedics, along with other services, arrived on the north bound incident and found that four light motor vehicles had collided.

On assessment, paramedics found that four people had been injured in the collision, one of them seriously.

While treating the patients, a secondary collision occurred on the south bound highway. Involving four vehicles. Fortunately, only one person was injured in this collision.

Paramedics treated all the patients and transported them to a nearby hospital for further treatment.

It is understood that a breakdown vehicle on the south-bound highway had noticed the collision on the north-bound. The driver apparently began reversing his vehicle up the south-bound highway, apparently resulting in a secondary collision.

Local authorities were on scene to investigate to the cause of both collisions.
