25 Year old sustains severe burn wounds from vehicle fire, Pietermaritzburg

A 25-year-old man sustained severe burn wounds during the early hours of this morning.

At approximately 3am paramedics from ER24 responded to a residential area in Glenwood, Pietermaritzburg where they found a vehicle well alight outside a residential property.

Several people, believed to be family members, were trying to extinguish the flames. A relative escorted paramedics into the home where they found the severely burnt man in one of the bedrooms. He sustained multiple burn wounds over his upper body, including his face.

At this stage it is unclear what caused the fire and how the man was removed from the vehicle.

Paramedics initiated advanced life support and rushed him to Edendale Hospital for further medical management.
