At 18h57 on Sunday evening Netcare 911 paramedics responded to a vehicle that overturned on the P145 in Wartburg Just outside Pietermaritzburg. Reports from the scene indicate that a light delivery vehicle with a canopy veered off the roadway and overturned. Exact detail to the cause of the crash is still speculative and will form part of the South African Police investigation.
Paramedics arrived at the scene and after triaging the injured found that one person tragically died, two people sustained life-threatening injuries while four sustained serious injuries. The two critically injured were found to be trapped in the twisted frame of the vehicle.
The injured were extricated and stabilised at the scene before medics transported them to various hospitals for the care that they required.
