A 9-year-old girl was left critically injured this morning after she was hit by a bakkie on Adderley Road in Durbanville in the Western Cape.
ER24 paramedics arrived on the scene at 07h57 and found Metro services already treating the child, found lying in the road.
On assessment, paramedics found that the child had sustained serious injuries to both her arms and legs, leaving her in a critical condition.
The patient was treated for her injuries and provided with advanced life support interventions. The patient was thereafter transported to Red Cross Hospital for urgent treatment.
The driver of the bakkie was assessed and found to have escaped injury.
It is believed that the child failded to notice the approaching vehicle when she stepped off her schoolbus.
Local authorities were on scene for further investigations.
