Fatal collision on the N1 South by Samrand Road in Midrand.

Just after 1pm this afternoon EMER-G-MED paramedics responded to reports of a serious collision on the N1 South by Samrand Road in Midrand.

It’s alleged that a car was stationary in the fast lane, after having broken down, when it was rear-ended by a BMW at a high-speed.

One person from the stationary vehicle was assessed to have sustained fatal injuries, paramedics could do nothing further but declare the patient dead on the scene. The four other occupants sustained moderate injuries, two requiring Advanced Life Support intervention. Paramedics stabilised them while the fire and rescue personnel worked to free them from the vehicle, using the “jaws of life” and other rescue equipment.

A sixth person, the driver of the BMW, was fortunate to escape with only minor injuries – and refused any hospitalization.

The traffic police were on the scene to investigate accordingly.
