Two people injured in Somerset West taxi crash

Two people were injured this morning, one critically, after a taxi and light motor vehicle collided on the Macassar Bridge in Macassar in the Somerset West area, Western Cape.

ER24 paramedics, along with another private service, arrived on the scene and found both vehicles in the middle of the intersection. The body of the taxi driver, a man, was found lying a few feet away.

On assessment, paramedics found that the man had sustained numerous injuries when he was ejected from the taxi, leaving him in a critical condition.

Paramedics began their treatment and provided the patient with advanced life support interventions. While treating the man, paramedics found a young girl, believed to be 6-years-old, sitting in the light motor vehicle with moderate injuries.

Paramedics treated the patients and thereafter transported them to Tygerburg Hospital for further treatment.

The cause of the collision is not yet known.
