BOYNTON-LEE WINS BUT MAPONYANE ENDS ON TOP IN EP 4
Only Jonathan Boynton-Lee and Maps Maponyane could go head to head on the racetrack and somehow both emerge as winners in the end!
After a disastrous start waiting for the green lights that didn’t exist, Maps was always going to be hard pressed to catch Jonathan in the 2-lap race around Zwartkops. But he was determined to try, and in an epic showdown that saw them set their friendship aside, they pushed each other to the limit and sometimes over it. When the brakes had cooled and the dust had settled, race victory went to Jonathan Boynton-Lee.
But where did they end up on the Speed Stars leaderboard? Such was the intensity of the race, that both of them posted faster times than the 1:27.13 posted by current leader Chris Bertish in Episode 3.
Jonathan smashed Chris’ time by 1.35 sec, with a fastest lap time of 1:25.78. Clearly the disappointment of his poor start in the race fired Maps up, as he went even faster – 1.65 sec faster in fact – posting a blistering lap time of 1:24.13 and with it the top spot on the leaderboard!
Will anybody beat that time? We predict that both Maps and Jonathan may have done enough to book themselves a spot in the Speed Stars final and a step closer to the title of SA’s Speediest Star BUT there is still plenty of talent to come like Wayde van Niekerk, Akani Simbine, Werner Kok, Nicole Flint, Garreth ‘Soldierboy’ McLellan, Roxy Louw, not to mention our four public hopefuls!
