Just before 6am yesterday morning EMER-G-MED’s RV2, M08, A04 and A10 were dispatched to reports of a serious collision, where a taxi lost control and rolled, on the R59 South before Swartkoppies Road, South of Johannesburg.

Paramedics arrived on the scene to find the badly rolled taxi lying in the centre island, the passengers – who had been ejected from the rolling vehicle – were found lying scattered around the area.

A total of ten passengers were injured, eight of them sustaining critical injuries that required immediate Advanced Life Support interventions.

Unfortunately an eleventh passenger was found to have sustained fatal injuries and was declared dead on the scene.

Paramedics worked effortlessly to stabilise the patients, while two aeromedical helicopters were called to the scene.

Once stable the patients were transported to a number of nearby hospitals for urgent specialist care – two by helicopter and the remaining eight by road ambulance.

JMPD’s specialist Accident Investigation Unit were present on the scene to launch a full investigation.
