Approximately 16 injured in taxi collision on the R55 in Kyalami, north of Johannesburg.

Approximately 16 people were injured this morning after a taxi and light delivery collided on the R55 in Kyalami, north of Johannesburg.

ER24 paramedics, along with various other services, arrived on the scene and found the taxi in the middle of the intersection while the delivery van was parked on the side of the road. Both vehicles had sustained a considerable amount of damage in the collision.

Several occupants from the taxi were found walking around on the scene.

On assessment, paramedics found that approximately 16 people had been injured in the collision, one critically.

Paramedics treated the patients and provided the critically injured patient with advanced life support interventions. Once treated, the critically injured patient was airlifted by a private medical helicopter to a nearby hospital for further treatment.

The remaining patients were transported by various services to hospitals in the area for further treatment.

The exact number of patients on scene is not known due to a number of them being transported by the various services.

Local authorities were on scene for further investigations.
