Bakkie crashed into broken down taxi after the Allandale Road on-ramp, Midrand.

Sixteen people were injured yesterday morning after a bakkie rear-ended a broken down taxi, in the middle lane, of the N1 North, just after the Allandale Road on-ramp, in Midrand.

At 10:46 Emer-G-Med dispatched multiple ambulances and response vehicles to the scene.

On arrival paramedics found the badly damaged vehicles in the middle of the highway, the scene was covered in debris and engine oil.

Three passengers from the taxi sustained moderate to serious injuries and required Advanced Life Support care. Thirteen others, including both drivers, were fortunate to escape with only minor injuries.

The patients were triaged and treated at the scene before being transported to various nearby hospitals – 10 by EMER-G-MED.

JMPD were at the scene to investigate.
