Lights, Camera, Action for Actresses Thulisile Phongolo & Sarah Kozlowski on SpeedStars

For Thuli Phongolo and Sarah Kozlowski, this could be their toughest role yet – as racing drivers – as they take to the track next on Speed Stars.

Sarah Kozlowski traded her power suit and the corporate rat race to pursue a career in acting. Her first audition was her big break, landing the fiery redhead a role on one of South Africa’s biggest and most popular ‘soapies’, Isidingo.  She has studied her craft in New York and Los Angeles and has built up an impressive acting resume working between the US and South Africa. But can she get into character as a racing driver?

After a brief stint as a television presenter on e.tv’s Craz-e, Thulisile Phongolo shifted her focus to her first love, acting. Like Sarah, her big break was also in a ‘soapie’, when she landed a lead role on Generations the Legacy. Thuli is passionate about empowering women, something she achieves through hosted workshops – will Speed Stars she her powering up the leaderboard with a fast lap time?

Both of our leading ladies are great at taking direction, something that will come in handy when our driving instructors show them the fast way around the race track. See them in action on Ignition DSTV 189 at the following times:

IT’S A PHOTO FINISH BETWEEN WAYDE VAN NIEKERK AND AKANI SIMBINE

The stopwatch governs their lives, split seconds the difference between breaking a record or finishing second, and it was no different when Olympic superstars Wayde van Niekerk and Akani Simbine traded their running spikes for racing helmets.

And the most eagerly anticipated match up of the season did not disappoint, our athletes sprinting through for the closest finish yet in our head to head races on Speed Stars.

When the checkered flag had dropped and the dust had settled, three hundreds of a second separated the two: 1:25,196 compared with 1:25,226. And the winner…. Wayde van Niekerk!

For Werner Kok and Chris Bertish, their bid to make the finals of Speed Stars ended with the fast times set by Wayde and Akani. With 4 stars, still to post times and the six fastest stars to contest the finals, Wayde and Akani find themselves in fourth and fifth position on the leaderboard and in with a great shot at going all the way!

WINNING IS EASY WITH SPEED STARS

Congratulations to Kamogelo Modise who won the Advanced Driving Course with Opel in our weekly viewer competition. It went down to the wire in this week’s charity challenge but Wayde van Niekerk, Roxy Louw, Thuli Phongolo and Gavin Edwards came out on top in the gymkhana, and in the process won R2500-00 for The Sunflower Fund.

Don’t forget to enter this week’s Predict the Winner competition and you could win an Advanced Driving Course with Opel and Michelin. Head to www.speedstars.co.za and make you prediction: will it be Thuli Phongolo or Sarah Kozlowski winning this week’s match up.

Enter every week for a chance to win our Grand Prize at the end of the season – a trip overseas with Michelin & the winner of Speed Stars as VIP guests at their 2017 Pilot Sport Experience.

Traditionally held at a world-famous Formula One circuit like Sepang in Malaysia, the Michelin Pilot Sport Experience will see our winners take to the track in a variety of racing cars for a taste of what it’s like to be a racing driver for a day!

But your chances of winning don’t end there, as both Opel and Independent Media will be running their own Predict the Winner competition. So, keep a look out for details on the Opel social media pages – opelsa – and in the motoring supplements of The Star, Pretoria News, Daily News, The Mercury and Cape Times.
