3 Suspects arrested for possession of unlicenced firearms, Hillbrow

Gauteng: SAPS members from the Hillbrow Tactical Response Team (TRT) arrested three men, aged between 26 and 40, and recovered a firearm and ammunition after the suspects shot at the police in Yeoville on Tuesday, 14 March 2017.

Members of Hillbrow TRT were conducting their routine patrols when they noticed a suspicious Audi with three occupants. Upon stopping the car, one of the suspects who carried a bag jumped out and ran away. Police gave chase and the suspect took out a firearm and started shooting at the police. Members ran after the suspect until he allegedly jumped from the bridge and injured himself. The suspect was apprehended and a pistol, with the serial numbers filed off, was recovered. Police also found several rounds of ammunition inside the bag allegedly carried by the suspect. The suspects that remained in the vehicle were also arrested.

A case of possession of an unlicensed firearm has been opened for investigation. The suspects will appear at the Hillbrow Magistrates Court in due course.
