Bheki Langa praised the community of Inchanga for assisting the police in apprehending the hijacking suspects

The KwaZulu-Natal Acting Provincial Commissioner, Major General Bheki Langa praised the community of Inchanga for assisting the police in apprehending the suspects who were involved in a hijacking. ‘This shows that strong partnership with police and community in our province can decrease crime and make sure that those involved are behind bars. I further appeal to the community to continue with support in helping the police in the fight against crime,’ he said

On 7 March 2017, at 11:00 the driver of a bakery truck was delivering bread at Fredville store near Ophuthwini, Inchanga when he was approached by two suspects at gunpoint. The suspects demanded cash from the driver and took two cell phones. They allegedly forced the driver to drive the truck towards a gravel road and while driving, the driver managed to jump from the truck and ran away while asking help from the community. While in the bushes, he saw community members allegedly assaulting the two suspects who hijacked him.

A case of hijacking case was opened at Inchanga police station and the suspects were handed over to the police. The suspects were found in possession of a .38 special revolver which will be taken for ballistic tests. The arrested suspects will appear in the Camperdown Magistrate’s Court today facing hijacking and possession of unlicensed firearm and ammunition.
