Four-time World Champion Yvan Muller has joined Cyan Racing as a development driver and senior advisor for the FIA World Touring Car Championship programme.
The Frenchman joined the team from 1st January 2017 and has attended all test sessions with the Volvo S60 Polestar TC1 race car since then, working closely with drivers Thed Björk, Néstor Girolami and Nicky Catsburg, as well as the team and organisation in other areas of development.
“We are really glad and proud to have recruited Yvan to Cyan Racing. There is no other touring car driver as experienced as him in the world and he is a vital asset to the team. We can already see the progress made, even though our cooperation is still quite new. The plan for the moment is that he is not going to race for us, but rather focus on testing and development,” says Christian Dahl, CEO of Cyan Racing.
Muller has not finished lower than third overall for the past ten years in the championship, claiming the title in 2008, 2010, 2011 and 2013, making him the most successful WTCC driver ever.
“To start a cooperation with Cyan Racing is something that I am very pleased about,” says Muller. “They developed strongly last year in their first season and we have made interesting progress during winter testing. I look forward to continuing to work with them and developing the car, as well as the team.”
Muller announced his retirement from full-time racing last year but will be behind the wheel of the Volvo S60 Polestar TC1 during the official pre-season test at Monza on 14-15 March.
