Update on the Westenburg attempted cash in transit robbery, Limpopo

The four suspects aged between 26 and 53 years old who were arrested yesterday after an attempted cash-in-transit robbery along Westernburg and Matlala road outside Polokwane, will be appearing before two separate Magistrate’s Courts today; being, ONE suspect in Seshego and THREE suspects in Polokwane for offences ranging from attempted cash-in-transit robbery, possession of suspected stolen motor vehicles to possession of firearms and ammunition without license.

This achievement emanated from the incident which occurred in the early hours of yesterday the 2017-03-02 at about 04:00 when a group of armed suspects attacked two Security Cars, one, transporting cash and the other car was an escort vehicle.

Both vehicles had five Security Officers. The suspects shot at the security vehicles causing the vehicles to overturn.

In the process of this incident, all the five Security Officers sustained serious injuries and the suspects abandoned their BMW sedan car at the scene.

The recovered items at this stage are as follows:

– Two RIFLES with magazines.

– Two PISTOLS with magazines.

– 61 various assorted rounds of ammunition.

– Five motor vehicles, including (03) VW Polo’s, BMW’ sedan and a Toyota Fortuner, of which two were reportedly hijacked at Pretoria and Mpumalanga.

– Police two-way radios.

– Police handcuffs.

The origin of the other vehicles, items and firearms is still being determined as the investigations are still unfolding.

The injured Security guards are still recuperating in the hospital with serious injuries. Police investigations are still continuing.
