Multi-disciplinary roadblock held near Port Edward

As part of the ongoing safety operations, a multidisciplinary roadblock comprised of RTI, PTEU, SAPS, Hibiscus Coast Law Enforcement (Ray Nkonyeni) and the Eastern Cape Traffic Police was conducted on the R61 near Port Edward on the South Coast.

220 Vehicles were stopped during the road block to be inspected. As a result, 80 charges were issued, ranging from worn out tyres, faulty brake lights, no drivers licence, failure to wear seat-belts, faulty hooter and rear overhanging. Two light motor vehicles and a minibus were suspended as a result.

MEC for Transport, Community Safety and Liaison, Mxolisi Kaunda urges motorists to observe the rules of the road and also be extra vigilant.

Operations of this nature will continue in all corners of the province throughout the weekend, to deal with lawlessness.
