Goodyear South Africa and Malas score a goal for team building

Port Elizabeth – The Goodyear vs. Malas Soccer Challenge took place on Saturday, May 13 at the Nelson Mandela Metropolitan University 2nd Avenue Campus in Port Elizabeth. Malas is a tyre dealer based in Pretoria. This being the fourth game in Goodyear and Malas, in the last few years, the stadium was filled with excitement and nerves as the players from both teams brought their A-game to see who would claim victory this time. The determination to win and have fun became evident from the first blow of the whistle, with spectators sitting on the edge of their seats throughout the nail-biting game.

The challenge started off on a high note as Malas scored the first goal in the first half and Goodyear followed with an equaliser in the final minutes of the first half. The second half continued with fierce competition and defence from both sides as Malas played a stronger backline, forcing Goodyear to fight their way through to the box, only managing a few attempts at goals. The challenge concluded with penalties as Malas claimed the victory with 6 penalties to 5.

“The game was exciting, challenging and extremely competitive, so much so that I could not even sit throughout the game. Initiatives like these are excellent for building relationships and it was great to see some of the guys we played with in the previous games again. There can only be one winner and once again we are proud to have brought the trophy back home with us. We believe that every player that was on the field is a winner. Both teams will have to train harder for the next game and I am enthusiastic to see what the future match outcome will be. Thank you to the Goodyear Management, staff and team for hosting us again” said Ahmed Joosub from Malas.

“It was a tough game and a great series of games against Malas thus far. Sports can be a great tool to bring people together. It can be used to build and foster teamwork and team spirit. Thank you to Malas for coming to Port Elizabeth for the game, it was great hosting you and we look forward to the next game.” said Goodyear Managing Director, Jean-Jacques Worth.

Sports are an excellent reminder that victories, no matter how big or small, can always be achieved through teamwork, collaboration, communication and a little bit of risk-taking.
