M13 Richmond Road taxi crash – 18 injured

Just after 11h00 on Saturday morning, Netcare 911 paramedics, their rescue unit, and several other services responded to a collision at the Richmond Road traffic lights by the M13 on ramp in Pinetown. Reports from the scene indicate that one taxi slammed into the side of another taxi. Exact detail to the cause of the crash however will form part of the South African Police investigation, and remain a subject for their comment.

Paramedics arrived at the scene and found that one of the vehicles had overturned, its twisted frame coming to rest on its side at the side of the roadway. After the injured were examined it was found that eighteen people were injured. One person was in a critical condition, the other injuries ranged from serious to minor.

The critically injured female’s condition was so severe that the Netcare 911 advanced life support paramedic had to intervene and place her on a ventilator. The patient was then transported to a specialised facility in Durban under the constant care of the Advanced Life Support paramedic.

The seventeen other patients were treated at the scene by various services before they transported them to hospital for the care that they required.
