Pedestrian left critical after collision. Pietermaritzburg

A man, believed to be in his 20s, was left critically injured this afternoon when he was knocked over by a light motor vehicle on the N3 Highway between Hammersdale and Cato Ridge outside of Pietermaritzburg, KwaZulu Natal.

ER24 paramedics were called to the scene after a motorist passed the man lying in the middle lane, at approximately 13h20.
Upon arrival, paramedics found the body of a man lying the middle lane of the highway. Local authorities had already closed off the lane for further safety.

Paramedics assessed the man and found that he was in a critical condition, having sustained injuries to his head, arm and pelvis.
The man was treated for his injuries and provided with advanced life support interventions. Once treated, the man was placed on a ventilator and transported to Greys Provincial Hospital for further care.

The driver of the light motor vehicle was assessed and found to have escaped injury.

The details surrounding this incident are not yet known but local authorities were on the scene for further investigations.
