Taxi and car collide leave approximately 15 injured in Rivonia, Johannesburg

Approximately 15 people were left injured this afternoon when a light motor vehicle and taxi collide at the Rivonia and South Road intersection in Rivonia, Johannesburg.

ER24 paramedics, along with several other services, arrived on the scene and found the taxi lying on its roof on the side of the road. The light motor vehicle was found parked a short distance away.

Several people were found lying outside of the taxi while some were found inside.

Paramedics assessed the patients and found that one man, believed to be in his 30s, was found lying a short distance away from the taxi. The man was found with several injuries and was in a critical condition. Approximately 14 other patients were found with injuries ranging from minor to moderate. Paramedics treated the patients and provided the critically injured patient with advanced life support interventions.

Once the critically injured man had been treated, he was rushed to Mediclinic Sandton for further stabilisation. Shortly after, the man was airlifted by the ER24 OnePlan Helicopter to Sunshine Hospital.

The remaining patients were treated and thereafter transported by ambulance to various hospitals in the area for further treatment.

The details surrounding this incident are not yet known but local authorities were on scene for further investigations.
