Street vendor killed in Pinehaven crossing collision, Krugersdorp

At approximately 08h30 on Sunday 23 July 2017, Netcare 911 paramedics were stopped at a fuel station on the corners of the N14 and Hugo road at the Pinehaven crossing in Krugersdorp. They heard a collision at the intersection and went over to investigate and assist.

The driver of one of the vehicles alleged that his vehicle experienced brake failure whilst coming down the very steep hill from Krugersdorp and was not able to stop and crashed into another vehicle at the traffic light.
A street hawker who was selling his merchandise at the traffic light saw what was going to occur and tried to run to safety, tragically he tripped and fell under an oncoming vehicle and sustained severe injuries.
When paramedics got to him he went into cardiac arrest and they initiated CPR. He was rushed to the Netcare Pinehaven Hospital which is located one traffic light away from where the incident occurred.
There the paramedics along with the doctors and Emergency Unit staff did everything in their power to save the man’s life, however his injuries were too severe and he died in the Emergency Unit.
The unidentified victim was estimated to be approximately 30 years old.

The occupants of the vehicles that were involved in the collision escaped without serious injury.

The SAPS were at the scene to investigate the incident and preceding events.
