Four people were killed this evening, including a baby girl, when a light motor vehicle crashed off a bridge off the R38 outside of Hendrina in Mpumalanga.
ER24 paramedics, along with the fire services, arrived on the scene to find a light motor vehicle lying on its side, wedge between a fence and the ridge wall.
Upon closer inspection, paramedics discovered the bodies of three men lying trapped inside the vehicle. The body of a girl, believed to be a year old, was found lying a short distance away in the river.
Paramedics assessed the four patients and found that all four had already succumbed to their injuries. Nothing could be done for them and they were declared dead on the scene.
It is believed two other patients were transported prior to the arrival of paramedics.
Specialized rescue teams were called to the scene to free the deceased from the vehicle.
Local authorities were on the scene for further investigations.
