Police nab suspect in Umlazi with illegal firearm, ammo and drugs

On Thursday, Umlazi police assisted by other units conducted an intelligence driven operation that led to the arrest of a suspect for being in possession of a unlicensed firearm, ammunition and drugs. Police were conducting the operation to follow up on intelligence with regards to illegal firearms at V Section in Umlazi.

During the operation a house was identified and police approached the house which was subsequently searched. Four men were found in the house and one of them was found in possession of an unlicensed 9mm pistol with 14 rounds of ammunition. Police also seized 20 pieces of rock cocaine and 10 mandrax tablets following a further search of the premises. A 43-year-old man was arrested and charged for possession of the unlicensed firearm, ammunition and drugs. He appeared in the Umlazi Magistrates Court facing criminal charges.

The Ethekwini Outer South Acting Cluster Commander Brigadier M.V.P. Mgobhozi thanked Umlazi police for their continuous efforts in dealing with crime in their police precinct. “These are some of the successes from our team of dedicated members who are committed to eradicating crime in the area.

These type of operations are a daily occurrence and some of us don’t sleep until criminals are found and place behind bars. We appeal to our communities to also play their part and support police in fighting crime as they are often aware of criminals and criminal activities in their neighbourhoods but choose to remain silent,” he said
