Twenty new SAPS vehicles deployed throughout the West Rand Cluster.

Twenty new vehicles, mostly all terrain LDV’s were officially handed in over in Krugersdorp to the group of police members who are deployed throughout the West Rand Cluster.

The group of police members have already made an impact on crime in the West Rand since they were deployed in January 2017. Their duties were however hampered due to transport shortages.

The handing over was proceeded by an informative session, conducted by the renowned racing car driver and multiple SA Champion on both four and two wheels, Mr Grant McCleery, who is also an advanced driving instructor.

Mr McCleery, who is an active SAPS reservist since 1986 and a passionate police official, stated that the members are privileged to receive brand new vehicles. “Please look after the most important tool of your trade, your vehicle. It is a proven fact that the dedicated patrol officer, is the most effective crime prevention method in the world. Visibility is essential and without a vehicle, your effectiveness diminishes” he said.

A practical inspection of the vehicles were conducted by Mr McCleery, to give pointers to the drivers on how to properly maintain the expensive resource which they received.

“This group will be deployed throughout the West Rand Cluster to primarily manage our priority crimes in predetermined hotspot areas. Secondarily they will conduct pro-active police operation to address all types of crime” said the Deputy Cluster Commander, Brigadier Leon Kruger.
