18 injured as minibus taxi carrying learners crashes in Mpopomeni outside Howick

At approximately 16h45 on Tuesday afternoon 05 September 2017, Netcare 911 responded to reports of a serious minibus taxi crash in the Mpopomeni informal settlement outside Howick.

Reports from the scene allege that a minibus taxi lost control on a sand road and went down an embankment and overturned. The incident and preceding events will form part of a police investigation.

Private ambulances services and the EMRS responded to the incident. The minibus taxi was transporting teenage learners at the time of the incident.

Eighteen people sustained injuries ranging from relatively minor to moderate and they were transported by ambulances to a local clinic for further assessment and care.

Some of the Netcare 911 paramedics who had attended to the earlier bus crash on the N3 near Hilton also attended to this incident.
