Products entered in Automechanika Johannesburg 2017’s Innovation Awards competition adjudicated

Six experts representing various segments of South Africa’s automotive industry are hard at work evaluating dozens of products entered in this year’s Automechanika Johannesburg’s Innovation Awards competition.

The products – which span a wide range of automotive applications – have one thing in common: they are deemed by their manufacturers or distributors to incorporate innovative qualities that, from an automotive viewpoint, make them game-changing from an OE or aftermarket perspective.

The task of deciding which are truly pioneering and worthy of top honours lies in the hands of this year’s jury – Jakkie Olivier and John Ellmore of the RMI; Dr Norman Lamprecht of NAAMSA; Renai Moothilal of NAACAM; Gideon de Klerk of Partinform and David Furlonger, industrial editor of the Financial Mail.

Following two rounds of assessment – which includes physical examination of the products – the jury will decide which items they perceive to be the most innovative. In getting to that point they will assess a host of factors, scoring the items not only in terms of pioneering prowess, but also for perceived quality, practicality, efficiency, benefits to users, environmental friendliness and value for money.

In particular, the judges will be looking for products that bring fresh perspectives to the OE or aftermarket segments in which they compete – and which hold the promise of performing beyond expectation.

Organisers of Automechanika Johannesburg 2017 have arranged for exhibits of the top six products to be highlighted in a display at the show, located in the link between Halls 5 and 6. Further, presentations of gold, silver, bronze and highly commended certificates will be made to the winners at an official prize-giving ceremony to be held at the event’s opening.
