One person has died and 5 others injured in Centurion crash

One man was killed and five others injured early this morning when a collision occurred on the N14 before the R55 in Centurion.

ER24 paramedics were called to the scene at 04h20 by the fire services.

Upon arrival, paramedics found the fire services extinguishing a fire that had broken out on a light motor vehicle. Two other vehicles were found in the fast lane against the centre barriers.

Two men were found lying outside the vehicle while several others were walking around on the scene.

Paramedics assessed one of the men lying outside the vehicle and found that he had sustained numerous injuries and showed no signs of life. Unfortunately, nothing could be done for the man and he was later declared dead.

Five other patients were assessed on the scene. One man was found in a critical condition while the four others had sustained injuries ranging from minor to serious.

Paramedics treated the patients and provided them with advanced life support interventions. Once all the patients had been treated, the critically injured man was airlifted by a private medical helicopter to a private hospital for urgent treatment. The remaining patients were transported by ambulance to facilities in the area for further treatment.

It is believed that two vehicles had collided and had come to a stop against the centre barrier. A third vehicle then apparently crashed into the two others a few moments later.

Local authorities will be investigating the cause of this collision.
