Springs head on collision leaves three injured

[SPRINGS] - Head on collision leaves three injured.

Three people were left injured this morning, one of them critically when a light motor vehicle and bakkie collided head-on on the R29 outside of Springs. ER24 paramedics arrived on the scene at 07h11 and found the local fire services already in attendance.

The bakkie was found on the one side of the road while the light motor vehicle was found on the opposite side of the road. A man and a young boy were found walking the light motor vehicle while a woman was found lying trapped inside the bakkie.

Rescue services had to use the jaws-of-life equipment to free the woman from the vehicle, an operation lasting 30 minutes. Once freed, paramedics found that she had sustained numerous injuries and was in a critical condition. The man and young child were found to have sustained only minor injuries.

Paramedics treated the patients and provided the critically injured woman with advanced life support interventions. Once treated, the woman was airlifted by the ER24 Oneplan Helicopter to Mediclinic Sandton for further treatment. The man and young child were transported by ambulance to a nearby hospital.

The exact cause of the collision is not yet known but local authorities were on the scene for further investigations.
