Woman killed in Camperdown multi-vehicle collision

[SPRINGS] - Head on collision leaves three injured.

A 34-year-old woman was killed this morning when two light motor vehicles collided on the N3 in Camperdown in KwaZulu Natal.

ER24 paramedics, along with Provincial Services, arrived on the scene to find that two light motor vehicles had collided and were now in the middle of the road.

Upon closer inspection, paramedics found a woman lying trapped inside the one light motor vehicles. Assessments showed that the woman had sustained numerous injuries and was in a critical condition.

Rescue services had to use specialized equipment to free the woman from the vehicle, an operation lasting one hour.

Once freed, paramedics treated the woman and provided her with advanced life support interventions.

Shortly after treatment, the patient was transported to Mediclinic Pietermaritzburg for urgent treatment.

While on route, the patient’s vital signs rapidly diminished. CPR and advanced life support interventions were once again initiated in an effort to revive the patient.

Paramedics arrived at the hospital and handed over the patient to the hospital staff. Unfortunately, after a short time, the patient finally succumbed to her injuries. Nothing more could be done and she was declared dead.

The cause of the collision is not yet known but local authorities were on the scene for further investigations.
