Pedestrian killed on the south bound lane of the R102 between the Verulam and Ottawa intersection

A pedestrian was killed after he was run over by a VW Polo on the south bound lane of the R102 between the Verulam and Ottawa intersection a short while ago (Friday).

Members of Reaction Unit South Africa were called out to the accident by passing motorists. Upon arrival a VW Polo was found lying on its roof. The 31 year old driver was trapped due to his arm being stuck under the roof of the vehicle. The Ethekwini Fire Department were called to the scene and with the use of air bags the vehicle was lifted and the driver was freed. He was stabilised on scene before being transported to Osindisweni Hospital in a serious but stable condition.

It is alleged that as the vehicle was travelling down the R102 when a pedestrian ran across the road. The vehicle struck the pedestrian with such force that it caused his arm and leg to be completely amputated. The pedestrian was fatally injured and declared deceased on scene.

The deceased’s identity has not been established at this stage.
