Taxi crashes into a tree killing a passenger and injuring 5 others in Three Rivers

A woman was killed and five others injured this morning when a taxi crashed into a tree off the General Hertzog Road in Three Rivers.

ER24 paramedics arrived on the scene shortly before 06h30 to find the taxi wedged against a large tree. Two people were found lying trapped inside the taxi while four others were found lying outside the vehicle.

Upon closer inspection, paramedics discovered the lifeless body of a woman lying trapped in the passenger seat of the vehicle. Unfortunately, the woman had already succumbed to her injuries. Nothing could be done for her and she was declared dead.

The driver of the was found lying trapped inside the vehicle in a critical condition. Four others were found lying outside the vehicle, including a critically injured fourteen-year-old boy. Fire services had to use specialized rescue equipment to free the driver while paramedics stabilized the patients.

Once freed, paramedics treated the patients and provided the two critically injured with advanced life support interventions.

The patients were thereafter transported to Sebokeng and Kopanong Provincial Hospitals for further care.

Local authorities were on the scene for further investigations.
