Two patients airlifted following separate quad bike crashes in Gauteng yesterday

On Sunday 26 November 2017, Netcare 911 Flight Desk was contacted twice requesting the Helicopter Emergency Medical Service for separate quad bike crashes.

  1. At around 13H00, HEMS was contacted with regards to a twenty-nine-year-old male who had sustained very serious injuries to his lower body following a quad bike crash in the Lanseria area. Once stabilised at the scene, the man was airlifted to a Trauma Unit in Johannesburg for the specialist care that he required.
  2. At around 14h55, HEMS was called to request the Air Ambulance for another quad bike crash, this time in the Rayton area outside Pretoria. Reports from the scene allege that the quad had overturned and that a protruding part had become impaled on the forty-year-old female rider. Netcare 911 paramedics had stabilised the patient and administered pain medication prior to the arrival of the helicopter. The patient was then airlifted to a specialist Trauma Unit in Johannesburg for surgical intervention.

As the holiday season approaches we encourage outdoor enthusiasts to take the necessary precautions and wear certified activity specific helmets for skateboarding, motorsports, cycling, climbing etc. as well as the recommended protective clothing for water and motorsports.
