Mercedes-Benz Vans sponsors the Eastern Cape’s 2017 New Year’s Cup football tournament with six vehicles

Mercedes-Benz Vans South Africa has announced a sponsorship agreement with the New Year’s Cup football tournament, which commenced in Grahamstown on the 16th of December 2017 and will conclude on the 31st of the same month.

This annual community oriented event promotes youth development through participation as it attracts local, provincial, national and international talent. The automotive sponsorship sees the leading van manufacturer supplying the initiative with six Mercedes-Benz vans: three Sprinters, two Vito Tourers and a V-Class. The six Mercedes-Benz vehicles will make up a luxury fleet to transport players, coaches, and other support staff to and from the venues in the Eastern Cape town of Grahamstown.

“Mercedes-Benz Vans is proud to be associated with youth development at a grassroots level. We are excited to be able to play our part in positively shaping tomorrow’s football stars,” said Vusumzi Vusani, Product and Marketing Manager for Mercedes-Benz Vans.

“We look forward to working in close collaboration with the New Year’s Cup to ensure the platform created is as successful as it can possibly be, in order to impact as many young lives possible. As the people’s first choice of vans in South Africa, Mercedes-Benz Vans will continue to be part of initiatives that make inroads in ensuring the country’s youth are always at an advantage,” added Vusani.

Luyanda Papu, Chairman of the New Year’s Cup concurred: “We witness a number of young people who are led astray as a result of not being able to be positively influenced. We established the New Year’s Cup last year in order to curb this social ill by introducing a football tournament that would involve the entire country. With the backing of Mercedes-Benz Vans, this mission will be realised.”

Mercedes-Benz Vans continues to be at the forefront of sport and youth development, through its innovative relationships, products and ambassadors. The manufacturer is excited to enhance the New Year’s Cup and to strengthen and promote the game of football in South Africa.
