Suspects armed with firearms arrested in the Khayelitsha Cluster

Serious and violent crimes remain a top priority for the Western Cape police and every endeavour is made to bring perpetrators to book, as displayed by the police in the Khayelitsha Cluster. On 2018-01-19 whilst Strand detectives were affecting an arrest during a tracing operation, they noticed that the 27-year-old suspect kicked something under the bed. A search led to the discovery of a pistol with fifteen rounds in the magazine. The suspect could not provide proof of ownership and was informed that he will be charged with the illegal possession of a firearm. He and his girlfriend were arrested and are due to appear in Strand court on Monday 2018-01-22.

Later on, the same day members attached to the Cluster’s Operational Command Centre were informed of weapons in an identified vehicle in Site C, Khayelitsha. They spotted the vehicle and pulled it over. They searched the vehicle and the occupants and found two firearms on two of the three occupants. All three suspects, aged between 25 and 30, were arrested for illegal possession of a firearm and the possession of a prohibited firearm. These suspects also have previous pending cases for business robbery in Paarl area. The suspects’ are scheduled to appear at Khayelitsha court on Monday 2018-01-22.

The Provincial Commissioner of the Western Cape police, Lieutenant General KE Jula welcomed the arrests of the five suspects and said that criminals with firearms have no place on the streets of this province.
