Head-on collision on the M13 between Krugersdorp and Kagiso

At approximately 07h15 on Wednesday 21 February 2018, Netcare 911 responded to reports of a very serious collision on the M13 approximately ten kilometers outside Krugersdorp direction towards Kagiso.

Netcare 911 paramedics were first to arrive at the scene and attended to the two female drivers.

Reports from the scene indicate that a car and a small bakkie were involved in a head-on collision leaving both patients with severe injuries.

The impact was so significant that both drivers were entrapped in their vehicles and Fire Fighters were called upon to use the “Jaws of Life” to free them from the wrecks.

When more paramedics arrived at the scene, they took over the treatment of the driver of the car while Netcare 911 focused on the driver of the bakkie, a fifty-two-year-old female, who had sustained severe and multiple injuries.

The Netcare 911 specialized helicopter ambulance was called to the scene and landed at a nearby school.

The patient was placed on a ventilator before being airlifted to a specialist Trauma Unit for the urgent care that was required.

The other patient was also placed on a ventilator before being transported to a hospital in a critical condition.

Police were on the scene to investigate and traffic flow was severely interrupted by the incident.
