Operation Fiela II yielded good successes: Port Elizabeth

Mount Road Cluster with the cooperation of various other stakeholders conducted a crime prevention operation as part of our integrated approach that is in line with the vision and mission of Operation Fiela II.  The operation focussed specifically on three dilapidated buildings in Central and Richmond Hill.  These buildings are used by criminals as hide out places and it is also seen as a generator of crime within the area.

Four wanted suspects were arrested on charges of Theft, Rape, Shoplifting and Possession of suspected stolen property.  Among the items confiscated were 164 syringes, 3 x cellphones, laptop and a tablet. Two of the buildings electricity was disconnected and the electrical boxes were removed. Traffic offence fines to the value of R3500-00 were issued. Waste management issued to fines for illegal dumping to the value of R18 000-00 and Immigration found 15 undocumented foreigners during the operation.

“These buildings are being taken over by criminals and we need to evict them from these premises.  The objective of Operation Fiela is to maintain law, order, peace and security as well as reclaim the space occupied by criminals.  These operations will continue until we have achieved our objective,” added Mount Road Cluster Commander, Major General Thembisile Patekile.
