Gauteng: Swift police action led to the recovery of an unlicensed firearm, suspect arrested
Gauteng police proved once again their crime fighting efforts through rapid response to the safety and security needs of the community by acting swiftly upon information received.
Police from Soshanguve K9 Unit received a complaint of an armed robbery of cellphone and cash at Winterness train station.
A full description of the suspect was given and police rushed to the scene. Upon arrival the suspect was spotted on the platform. Police approached the suspect to affect an arrest but he ran away. A chase on foot ensued and the suspect was successfully apprehended.
Upon searching his bag, police found a firearm with a magazine loaded with 2 live rounds of ammunition, a cellphone, and hand gloves and vice grip.
The suspect was arrested and charged with possession unlicensed firearm, ammunition and possession of stolen property. #RailwaySafety#FightingCrime
