Safe Communities are happy communities
When communities are educated about their surroundings especially when it comes to their safety, they are more likely to be vigilant, alert and stay away from ‘no go’ areas.
The Mount Road Cluster Women’s Network and Men for Change embarked on an awareness drive by taking to the streets of Humewood targeting fitness fanatics taking an early morning stroll or jog on the beachfront.
While getting some exercise themselves, the men and women walked from Kings Beach, Humewood to the Boardwalk where they stopped and chatted to joggers and strollers alike. Awareness pamphlets were handed out to them.
Opportunistic criminals often lurk around waiting to pounce on an unsuspecting target as he/she is jogging on the beachfront. With the long weekend ahead, visitors are bound to flock to the ‘friendly city’ to soak up the lovely sun and sea hence the awareness drive.
The Women’s Network and Men for Change will continue with these crime initiatives in ensuring that an informed community is a safe community.
