A 32-Year-Old Woman Robbed and Raped in Verulam, KZN

A shop merchandiser walking between two supermarkets in the Verulam area was accosted & raped in a bush on Valley View Drive near Riyadh approx 15 minutes ago.

At approx 10:17 (Wednesday) Reaction Unit South Africa received a call from an estate agent who stopped at the bushy property with a potential buyer for the vacant land. The agent informed Officers that a woman exited the property and ran toward his vehicle. She informed him that a male had just dragged her into the bush and raped her.

Reaction Officers arrived on scene and interviewed the woman. She informed Officers that an African male had produced a large knife and held it to her neck whilst she was walking towards the Verulam cbd from a supermarket in Waterloo. The suspect then dragged her into the bush an raped her. He fled when the estate agent arrived at the property. R60 in cash & a Mint Mobile phone was taken. The suspect was described as tall, slender in built, attired in a brown shirt & black short pants & black shoes. He also has a scar under one of his eyes. Reaction Officers have blocked all entrances & exits in the area and have summoned the SAPS Dog Unit to assist in tracking the suspect. Paramedics are attending to the woman.

The estate agent informed Officers that the client refused to view or purchase the property after this incident.
