Suspect arrested for possession of illegal firearm and ammunition in Manenberg

Today, Thursday 10 May 2018, at 08:30 Manenberg SAPS members continued with their zero-tolerance approach in clamping down on gang violence within the precinct. During routine crime prevention patrols the Crime Prevention Unit members arrested a 28-year-old man for possession of a firearm and ammunition.

Members performing high-density patrols in Tambo Village saw two suspicious persons walking along the railway line in the village. When the suspects saw the SAPS marked vehicle they started to run. Police were hot in pursuit and cornered the suspects in Ashley Forbes Road, Tambo Village. The 28-year-old man was cornered and a firearm recovered. The 9mm pistol lay on the ground with the hammer in a cocked position and thirteen 9mm live rounds were recovered.

Forensic evidence was gathered on the scene and a case of possession of an illegal firearm and ammunition was registered. After the 28-year-old suspect was arrested, police continued their pursuit of the other suspect and an arrest is imminent. The first arrested suspect is expected to appear in the Athlone Magistrates’ Court soon.
